The idea of change has exercised the minds of people since the earliest times. At present, change has taken the centre stage in the developing world. Though change has become the agenda for the governments, administrators, planners and policy makers, it is the social scientists who have to convert ideas into actions. The social scientists not only have the training and competence to analyse social trends but are also involved in social prediction and social criticism. This volume not only tries to understand the relation between social science and development but also examines the various perspectives on development with reference to India.
The book is being brought out in honour of Professor Rajeshwar Prasad, President of Indian Social Science Association, Agra. None in India has served the cause of social science better than him. Scholars from both India and abroad have contributed towards this volume in his honour. The book will be useful for administrators, planners, policy makers, social scientists and social workers.
