Description
The book is an attempt to analyze the marriage customs of various Christian communities in India, particularly the Syro-Malabar Catholics of Kerala.
Tracing the historical development of Christian marriage in Kerala, the study tries to identify the cultural elements which the Syrian Catholic community assimilated from the Hindu, and integrated with Christian values. It brings to light the core elements, which persisted over time, and the peripheral ones, which underwent change. The intergenerational changes in the marriage practices and attitudes of the Northist and Southist groups have also been presented systematically.
