Description
The standard literary histories of Sanskrit literature have primarily focused on Brahmanic texts, largely overlooking the significant contributions made by Buddhist authors. Evidence of a vast literature in Sanskrit by Buddhist thinkers can be found in sparse references and occasional discoveries of Buddhist works in Jain libraries. This book aims to address the gap in our knowledge of Sanskrit literature by delving into the works of Buddhist authors. The author has relied heavily on Winternitz’s research but intends to update and supplement it. Appendices include contributions from other scholars, covering topics such as Buddhist drama, ancient literature, medical science, and references to Buddhism in Brahmanical and Jaina writings.
