The idea of development, particularly in the context of India, demands more nuanced engagement with its various dimensions. Though India has witnessed spectacular growth for a considerable period of time, it also experienced an uneven developmental journey. The disparity of development is nowhere more evident than in the Northeastern part of the country. Northeastern states, for various reasons, have been denied the attention they deserved. For decades, these states have been left behind from the mainstream developmental discourse and still face challenges that impede the development of the area.
This incisive book takes a fresh look at the problems that these states face today and explores the causes of prolonged asymmetrical development, in comparison to other parts of the country.
