In the want of a informative and friendly book on plant life of India the author was encouraged by his friends to write this book. The book is scientific but avoids technicality that is beyond the scope of the nonscientific reader. The book is divided into 2 partsThe description of types and orders and structure and life of plants. The first part is subdivided into dicotyledons and monocotyledons, The second part is subdivided into 2 divisions i) the minute structure and vital processes of plants, and ii) the structure and vital processes of the parts of plants. The second subdivision discusses the various parts of a plant separately namely leaf, root, stem, flower and the fruit and the seed. The book ends with two appendices that note the nomenclature and classification, and the distribution of the plants. This book is a reprint of the 1908 edition.
