This book contain that the author has studied Buddhism for more than two decades, lived in Buddhist countries for nearly a decade, and traveled extensively to these areas to investigate the current state of the religion. Through personal interaction with practitioners of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, Burmese, and Singhalese Buddhism, observing monks and lay devotees, and inquiring about rituals and institutions, the author has gained a comprehensive understanding of Buddhism as a contemporary practical religion.
