Description
Due to the very old age and scarcity of this book, some pages are missing and may be hard to read due to the blurring of the original text. The Gazetteer of Sibsagar (Sivasagar) provides a general overview of the district as a whole, without including a directory, which is a common feature in Gazetteers. The district has few places that can be considered towns, and the small villages where people reside do not require separate and detailed descriptions. Only places that serve as local trade centers or have significant industrial activities have been mentioned by name. Attempting to describe each of these villages would result in tedious repetition. It’s important to note that the Gazetteer was compiled during a time when Assam was an independent Province. Thus, any references to the Province pertain to Assam and not Eastern Bengal and Assam.
