A Code of Gentoo Laws, or, Ordinations of the Pundits is an 18th-century compilation of Hindu laws, translated from Sanskrit to Persian and then to English by Nathaniel Brassey Halhed in 1776. Commissioned by the East India Company, it aimed to facilitate governance by codifying legal and cultural practices of Hindus in Bengal. The work provides insight into ancient Indian jurisprudence and religious norms, covering civil, criminal, and personal law.
