RESEARCH METHODOLOGY IN GEOGRAPHY: Social, Spatial and Policy Dimensions

There is no dearth of books on research methodology. But there are not many, if at all, which address themselves to the interdisciplinary approach so common in geography. This book has, therefore, been designed to fill this gap in methodological literature. The papers included focus on contemporary methodological approaches in social and policy sciences cutting across various disciplines, and pertinent to geographers. The book will, however, be equally useful to disciplines like economics, sociology, anthropology, public administration and political science. The objective of the book is to present a synthetic view of theoretical analysis and empirical derivations and observations on environmental, social and policy issues within the broad conceptual matrix of geographic research.

Harikesh N. Misra, earlier at the University of Allahabad, is currently Professor of Geography at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. He has written and edited four books and published myriads of research papers in national and international journals. He is also a member of Editorial Advisory Board of Progress in Human Geography—an international journal published from the United Kingdom.

Vijai P. Singh is Director, University Centre for Social and Urban Research and Professor, Department of Sociology and Associate Provost, University of Pittsburgh, PA, USA. He has also written and edited several books and research papers.
