GENDERED CITYSCAPES: Perspectives on Identity and Equity in Urban Asia

Gendered Cityscapes provides a glimpse into the complex realities of gender disparity that can be seen in urban spaces of most Asian nations. The varied facets of gender research in Asian Universities that is presented here indicates that corrective national policies that focus on persisting gender gaps and inequities are essential in most of these countries. The authors explore the emerging aspects of gendered urbanisms in Asia and present a roadmap of public and civic action needed to address the underlying determinants of gender gaps here.

Divya Upadhyaya Joshi, PhD, is a Professor of Political Science and Deputy Director of the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Kumaun University, Nainital, India. She specializes in gender studies and her research has focused on the many complex aspects of the dynamics of gender in the marginalized mountain areas of India.

Hiromi Tanaka, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the School of Information and Communication at Meiji University, Japan. She specializes in feminist media studies and is currently working on funded projects on social media and gender (JSPS Kaken) and emotional AI (UKRI-JST).

Chompoonuh K. Perpoonwiwat, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Economics at Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok. Her research interests are in public policy analysis related to local public finance, transportation, human resource development, and natural resource and environmental issues.
