The 790 Members of Parliament of India, the world?s largest democracy, represent one billion people. The 545 members of the 13th Lok Sabha and 245 members of the Rajya Sabha represent India?s teeming millions at a unique period of historyduring the New Millennium. The 13th Lok Sabha was constituted on the eve of the New Millennium, after the SeptemberOctober 1999 Elections. The Rajya Sabha, unlike the Lok Sabha, is a continuing House with onethird of its members retiring every two years and replaced in biennial elections, the last one having been held in April 2000. The Second Volume contains Portraits of the Members of Rajya Sabha. India?s teeming millions expect much from these men and women of destiny. Each profile is accompanied by the Member?s photograph and contains tables, giving details such as constituency?s electorate, names of major contestants, the votes and percentage of votes polled by each one of them and the margin of victory. The profiles are given Statewise in alphabetic order. Within each State, they are in Constituencywise order. They can be located by names, alphabetically, at the all India level too through the Index.
